Freedom from (all) obligations (is declared) from Allah and His Messenger (SAW) to those of the Mushrikun (polytheists, pagans, idolaters, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah), with whom you made a treaty. (Tawbah: 1)
This surah is called Baraa and it was revealed in Madinah
Because Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) is making baraa from the mushrikeen
Baraa means disavowal (Rejection)
In the Year 9AH, the Rasool (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) sent Abu Bakr (radiyallahu ‘anhu) to lead the believers on hajj
Abu Bakr was the first Amir ul Hajj
The Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) did not go because mushrikeen were still in Makkah and some may make tawaf naked
When the Muslims were in the valley of Mina the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) sent Ali Ibn Abu Talib (radiyallahu ‘anhu) with a message
He (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) told Ali to read it out loud for all the Muslims in Mina to hear
Mina is on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah and it is Eid
But the people doing Hajj don't perform Eid
Eid is for those who do not go to Hajj
Abu Ma`shar Al-Madani said that Muhammad bin Ka`b Al-Qurazi and several others said, "The Messenger of Allah sent Abu Bakr to lead the Hajj rituals on the ninth year (of Hijrah). He also sent `Ali bin Abi Talib with thirty or forty Ayat from Bara'ah (At-Tawbah), and he recited them to the people, giving the idolators four months during which they freely move about in the land. He recited these Ayat on the day of `Arafah (ninth of Dhul-Hijjah). The idolators were given twenty more days (till the end) of Dhul-Hijjah, Muharram, Safar, Rabi` Al-Awwal and ten days from Rabi` Ath-Thani. He proclaimed to them in their camping areas, `No Mushrik will be allowed to perform Hajj after this year, nor a naked person to perform Tawaf around the House.''' MUSNAD AHMAD
The Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) chose Ali because he (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) said he was from his family
The letter contained three directives:
1. Only a believer can go to paradise
2. No Mushrik is allowed to make Hajj after this day
3. No naked person is allowed to make tawwaf around the kaaba
Narrated Bishr bin Suhaim: The Messenger of Allah (SAW) delivered a sermon on the days of Tashriq (11th, 12th, and 13th of dhul-hijjah) and said: "No one will enter Paradise but a Muslim soul, and these days are the days of eating and drinking." Sahih
Relevance: 23.0886 (Sunan Ibn Majah, The Book of Fasting # 1720)
SURAH TAWBAH VERSE 2
What did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) Say in surah Tawbah Verse 2 and why was it Revealed?
So travel freely (O Mushrikun - see V.2:105) for four months (as you will) throughout the land, but know that you cannot escape (from the Punishment of) Allah, and Allah will disgrace the disbelievers. (Tawbah: 2)
This Verse was revealed to tell the mushrikeen that their honeymoon in Makkah will be over in 4 months
And that no jizya was allowed to be taken from them
It is haram to take jizya from pagan Arabs
SURAH TAWBAH VERSE 3
What did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) Say in surah Tawbah Verse 3 and why was it Revealed?
And a declaration from Allah and His Messenger to mankind on the greatest day (the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah - the 12th month of Islamic calendar) that Allah is free from (all) obligations to the Mushrikun (see V.2:105) and so is His Messenger. So if you (Mushrikun) repent, it is better for you, but if you turn away, then know that you cannot escape (from the Punishment of) Allah. And give tidings (O Muhammad SAW) of a painful torment to those who disbelieve. (Tawbah: 3)
The 10th of Dhul Hijjah is called the Greatest Day
It is called Eid ul Adha - it is the big Eid
“The best day with Allah is Yawm-un-Nahr, the day of sacrifice and then Yum-al-Qarr (the day that follows, when the pilgrims reside in the camps of Mina for worship).” (Ahmad, Abu Dawood and an-Nasa'iee)
Eid ul Fitr is the small Eid
We have two Eids, one is small and the other is big
SURAH TAWBAH VERSE 5
What did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) Say in surah Tawbah Verse 5 and why was it Revealed?
Then when the Sacred Months (the Ist, 7th, 11th, and 12th months of the Islamic calendar) have passed, then kill the Mushrikun (see V.2:105) wherever you find them, and capture them and besiege them, and prepare for them each and every ambush. But if they repent and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and give Zakat, then leave their way free. Verily, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Tawbah: 5)
This Verse is called the Verse of the Sword
Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) Revealed this Ayah because
Pagans are not allowed to be in the Arabian Peninsula:
Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab that the Messenger of Allah (SAW), said, "Two deens shall not co-exist in the Arabian Peninsula." Malik said that Ibn Shihab said, ''Omar ibn al-Khattab searched for information about that until he was absolutely convinced that the Messenger of Allah (SAW), had said, 'Two deens shall not co-exist in the Arabian Peninsula,' and he therefore expelled the jews from Khaybar." [Muwatta Malik (2/63) No. 1862 and Bayhaqi in 'Sunan al-Kubra' (9/350) No. 18751]
On the authority of Jabir bin Abdullah: "Omar bin Al Khattab informed me that he heard the Messenger of Allah (SAW) say: "I will expel the Jews and the Christians from the Arabian Peninsula, and I will not leave anyone in it except a Muslim."' [Sahih Muslim (3/138 No. 1767, Sunan Tirmidhi (4/156) No. 1607, Sunan Abu Dawud (3/165) No. 3030, Musnad Ahmad (1/32) No. 219]
This Verse of the Sword abrogates the ayah:
"You to your way and me to my way" (Kafiroon: 6)
You cannot build churches in the Arabian Peninsula (Saudia Arabia, Yemen, UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman)
Please note: Iraq and Syria are not a part of the Arabian Peninsula
SURAH TAWBAH VERSE 11
What did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) Say in surah Tawbah Verse 11 and why was it Revealed?
But if they repent, perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat) and give Zakat, then they are your brethren in religion. (In this way) We explain the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) in detail for a people who know. (Tawbah: 11)
The Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) had Prisoners of War (POWs) who began taking the shahadah
Some sahabah were wary about these POWs, whether they were doing so only to save their necks – that it was fake
So Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) put down three conditions to accept these reverts as real Muslims:
1. They should make Taubah from shirk
2. They should establish the 5 daily prayers (salah)
3. They need to pay the zakah
Then accept them as your brothers in Deen
A debate took place between Imam Shafi (rahimahullah) and Imam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal (rahimahullah)
Imam Shafi said you cannot make takfir on the one who abandons salah
Imam Hanbali differed and quoted Tawbah: 11 during the debate
Ahmed ibn Hanbal won the debate with the ayah tawbah: 11
There is no such thing as a non-practicing Muslim
Some people drink, take drugs and gamble and say they are 'a non practicing Muslim'
Remember Tawbah 11 to refute them
A sinful Muslim is different from a non-Muslim
'Non-practising muslim' doesn't exist
SURAH TAWBAH VERSE 12
What did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) Say in surah Tawbah Verse 12 and why was it Revealed?
But if they violate their oaths after their covenant, and attack your religion with disapproval and criticism then fight (you) the leaders of disbelief (chiefs of Quraish - pagans of Makkah) - for surely their oaths are nothing to them - so that they may stop (evil actions). (Tawbah: 12)
This ayah was revealed about Abu Sufyaan (radiyallahu ‘anhu)
He signed a treaty with the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam)
This was the treaty of Hudaybiyyah
It stated that there will be 10 years of no war
But then Quraish supported a pagan tribe against a Muslim tribe
And this is how Abu Sufyaan (Quraish) broke the treaty
When Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) Revealed this Ayah
The Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) conquered Makkah
When the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) had signed the treaty, the sahabah frowned
They were not happy with the terms but the victory was the treaty
Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) Said so in Fath Verse 1
Verily, We have given you (O Muhammad SAW) a manifest victory. (Fath: 1)
When Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) said to fight the Imams of Kufr
He was encouraging the Muslims to take out the leaders of the kuffaar on the battlefield: the Army Generals
When you take out the Army Generals
They become headless chickens
The Rasool (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) did this at the battle of Badr
And the Kuffaar became like headless chickens
SURAH TAWBAH VERSE 16
What did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) Say in surah Tawbah Verse 16 and why was it Revealed?
Do you think that you shall be left alone while Allah has not yet tested those among you who have striven hard and fought and have not taken Walijah [(Batanah - helpers, advisors and consultants from disbelievers, pagans, etc.) giving openly to them their secrets] besides Allah and His Messenger, and the believers. Allah is Well-Acquainted with what you do. (Tawbah: 16)
Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) Revealed this to remind the believers
That they will be tested like those before them
It is similar to ayaat in Surah Ankabut: 1-3
Alif Lam Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Qur'an, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings.] (Ankabut: 1)
Do people think that they will be left alone because they say: "We believe," and will not be tested. (Ankabut: 2)
And We indeed tested those who were before them. And Allah will certainly make (it) known (the truth of) those who are true, and will certainly make (it) known (the falsehood of) those who are liars, (although Allah knows all that before putting them to test). (Ankabut: 3)
It is also similar to surah Al Imran Verse 140
If a wound (and killing) has touched you, be sure a similar wound (and killing) has touched the others. And so are the days (good and not so good), We give to men by turns, that Allāh may test those who believe, and that He may take martyrs from among you. And Allāh likes not the Zālimûn (polytheists and wrongdoers). (Imran: 140)
Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) Said, He Gives the sweetness of victory and bitterness of defeat to men in turns
In order to test to see who are sincere believers
When you taste the bitterness of defeat; do not turn into apostates
Even the sahabah tasted the sweetness of Victory and bitterness of defeat
The mujahideen of the Islamic State lost Tikrit but they didn’t lay down their arms
Instead they went and conquered Ramadi
SURAH TAWBAH VERSE 17
What did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) Say in surah Tawbah Verse 17 and why was it Revealed?
It is not for the Mushrikun (polytheists, idolaters, pagans, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah), to maintain the Mosques of Allah (i.e. to pray and worship Allah therein, to look after their cleanliness and their building, etc.), while they witness against their ownselves of disbelief. The works of such are in vain and in Fire shall they abide. (Tawbah: 17)
This Ayah is about the uncle of the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) - Al Abbas
(radiyallahu ‘anhu)
He was taken prisoner at the Battle of Badr
The Muslims began to insult him
They insulted him because of two things:
1. His shirk
2. His severing the ties of kinship
Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu) was harsh with him
Abbas said to Ali, "Why do you mention only my evil deeds, not the good deeds?"
Ali said "Do you have any good deeds?"
Abbas said, "Yes"
"We look after Allah's house, the kaaba and we provide water for the pilgrims"
When Abbas said this, Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) revealed Tawbah Verse 17
Because of your kufr, you get no reward for the good deeds
"Verily, Allah accepts only from those who are Al-Muttaqun (the pious - see V.2:2)." (Ma'idah: 27)
You might do pious deeds, but you are a mushrik
So it will not save you from the hellfire
You need to worship Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) alone for your deeds to be accepted
SURAH TAWBAH VERSE 19
What did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) Say in surah Tawbah Verse 19 and why was it Revealed?
Do you consider the providing of drinking water to the pilgrims and themaintenance of Al-Masjid-al-Haram (at Makkah) as equal to the worth of those who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and strive hard and fight in the Cause of Allah? They are not equal before Allah. And Allah guides not those people who are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers). (Tawbah: 19)
A sahabi said, "I don't care if I have any pious deeds, as long as I provide water to the pilgrims"
Another said, "I don't care if I have any pious deeds, as long as I look after the kaaba, the house of Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala)."
A third said, "Jihad fissabillilah is better than these pious deeds that you mentioned"
(Jihad fissabillilah = Jihad in the way of Allah)
Omar Ibn Al Khattab (radiyallahu ‘anhu) came and they consulted him about their conversation
Omar asked them to let him pray salah first
Then he went to the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) to adjudicate the matter
When the four sahabah approached the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam), Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) Revealed Tawbah Verse 19
Do you consider the providing of drinking water to the pilgrims and the maintenance of Al-Masjid-al-Haram (at Makkah) as equal to the worth of those who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and strive hard and fight in the Cause of Allah? They are not equal before Allah. And Allah guides not those people who are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers). (Tawbah: 19)
This ayah tells you that the best deed is Jihad fesabilillah
Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) Himself testified to that
SURAH TAWBAH VERSES 23 & 24
What did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) Say in surah Tawbah Verses 23 & 24 and why were they Revealed?
O you who believe! Take not for Auliya' (supporters and helpers) your fathers and your brothers if they prefer disbelief to Belief. And whoever of you does so, then he is one of the Zalimun (wrong-doers, etc.). (Tawbah: 23)
Say: If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your wives, your kindred, the wealth that you have gained, the commerce in which you fear a decline, and the dwellings in which you delight … are dearer to you than Allah and His Messenger, and striving hard and fighting in His Cause[], then wait until Allah brings about His Decision (torment). And Allah guides not the people who are Al-Fasiqun (the rebellious, disobedient to Allah). (Tawbah: 24)
This ayah was revealed in regards to a group of sahabah
When the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) commanded the sahabah to migrate
Some acted on it immediately and went to Madinah
However, there were others who told their families that they were going to migrate
Their wives and children started to cry and they hugged them
Saying “we beseech you by Allah, not to abandon us in Makkah, not to have someone to protect us and cause us harm and danger’’
These sahabah’s hearts became soft and so they aborted their intention to migrate
So Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) Revealed Tawbah Verses 23 & 24 to rebuke these sahabah about their decision not to migrate to be with the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam)
SURAH TAWBAH VERSE 34
What did Allah (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) Say in surah Tawbah Verse 34 and why was it Revealed?
O you who believe! Verily, there are many of the (Jewish) rabbis and the (Christian) monks who devour the wealth of mankind in falsehood, and hinder (them) from the Way of Allah (i.e. Allah's Religion of Islamic Monotheism). And those who hoard up gold and silver [Al-Kanz: the money, the Zakat of which has not been paid], and spend it not in the Way of Allah, -announce unto them a painful torment. (Tawbah: 34)
This Ayah was revealed to remind the believers that people use false religion to make money
So some of these televangelist make millions per year in donations
They use the money to take drugs and sleep with women
Some will come to their church and say they got a vision to collect money from the members or they will die
And then they use the money to buy fancy cars and big houses
Televangelist: Hall of Shame:
The second part of the ayah, regarding gold and silver, is addressed to the believers
The first part is for Jews and Christians
The second part is for the Muslims:
…..And those who hoard up gold and silver [Al-Kanz: the money, the Zakāt of which has not been paid], and spend it not in the Way of Allāh, -announce unto them a painful torment. (Tawbah: 34)
When Muawiya (radiyallahu ‘anhu) was in Syria, a dispute broke out between him and Abu Dharr (radiyallahu ‘anhu)
Abu Dharr quoted this Ayah (Tawbah: 34)
And Muawiya said it was revealed for Jews and Christians
Abu Dharr said Muawiya got it wrong
It was for everybody: Jews, Christians and Muslims
Once you refuse to pay the zakah, you will face a painful torment
The dispute became so bad, Abu Dharr left Syria to live in Madinah
Because he refused to back down from his position
The correct opinion here is the opinion of Abu Dharr, according to the scholars, because the Ayah is for everybody
Why? Because of the hadith:
"Whoever is made wealthy by Allah and does not pay the Zakat of his wealth, and then on the Day of Resurrection his wealth will be made like a bald-headed poisonous male snake with two black spots over the eyes. The snake will encircle his neck and bite his cheeks and say, 'I am your wealth, I am your treasure.' (Bukhari Volume 2, Book 24, Number 486.)
You should have no doubt in your heart that their are snakes in the grave
If a Sheikh explains to you the Punishment of the Grave, you will have nightmares
Some sahabah asked the rasul (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) which wealth is the best wealth:
Narrated Thawban: “When (the following) was revealed: And those who hoard up gold and silver... (9:34)" He said: "We were with the Messenger of Allah (SWT) during one of his journeys, so some of his Companions said: (This) has been revealed about gold and silver, if we knew which wealth was better then we would use it. So he (SAWS) said: the most virtuous of it is a remembering tongue, a grateful heart, and a believing wife that helps him with his faith.’" Tirmidhi: Vol. 5, Book 44, Hadith 3094
SURAH TAWBAH VERSE 38
What did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) Say in surah Tawbah Verse 38 and why was it Revealed?
O you who believe! What is the matter with you, that when you are asked to march forth in the Cause of Allah (i.e. Jihad) you cling heavily to the earth? Are you pleased with the life of this world rather than the Hereafter? But little is the enjoyment of the life of this world as compared with the Hereafter. (Tawbah: 38)
This was revealed before the Tabuk expedition to encourage the sahabah to march with the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) on the Tabuk expedition
This expedition was difficult because of three reasons:
1. The enemy was strong - it was the Roman Empire (Byzantium)
2. That summer was very hot and the journey was very far
3. The expedition came at the time of harvest - to harvest the dates and that was their livelihood
It was a big fitna for the sahabah but in spite of all that
The sahabah were ready to march forward
The Rasool (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) used to attack the kuffaar secretly
That is he never declared or made public who or where they were going to attack
But for this expedition, he made a public announcement
Sahabah came from as far as Yemen to join the Rasool (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam)
About 30,000 Muslims came because this was a historic moment
There were the two ‘super powers’ at that time: Persians and Romans
The word "super power" is shirk because Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) is The Only Super Power
Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) said in Tawbah Verse 92
Some sahabah cried because they could not join the expedition due to lack of enough animals to take them to the front line
Nor (is there blame) on those who came to you to be provided with mounts, and when you said: "I can find no mounts for you," they turned back, while their eyes overflowing with tears of grief that they could not find anything to spend (for Jihād). (Tawbah: 92)
They cried because they missed that moment
They were real Muslims not like some today who are fake saying there is no Jihad without a Caliph and the current Caliph is fake
Others say the mujahideen are khawaarij
Others call for election though we have been bitten more than once through elections
Abu Huraira (RA) narrated the Prophet (SAW) said: "A believer is not bitten from the same hole twice.” [Related by al-Bukhari (6133) and Muslim (299)]
SURAH TAWBAH VERSE 41
What did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) Say in surah Tawbah Verse 41 and why was it Revealed?
March forth, whether you are light (being healthy, young and wealthy) or heavy (being ill, old and poor), strive hard with your wealth and your lives in the Cause of Allāh. This is better for you, if you but knew. (Tawbah: 41)
This was revealed to rebuke the hypocrites who used excuses not to join the jihad
Some came and said they are too fat, too old, too rich, women are fitna etc
Coming up with many flimsy excuses
SURAH TAWBAH VERSE 42
What did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) Say in surah Tawbah Verse 42 and why was it Revealed?
Had it been a near gain (booty in front of them) and an easy journey, they would have followed you, but the distance (Tabuk expedition) was long for them, and they would swear by Allāh, "If we only could, we would certainly have come forth with you." They destroy their ownselves, and Allāh knows that they are liars. (Tawbah: 42)
This was about the hypocrites of Madinah
They don’t like to join the army if the journey is far and that there is less chances to get booty
But they wanted to go to the battle that were close and the enemy is weak
Because they only wanted the booty
Especially Abdullah ibn Ubayy - he was the leader of the hypocrites of Madinah
SURAH TAWBAH VERSE 47
What did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) Say in surah Tawbah Verse 47 and why was it Revealed?
Had they marched out with you, they would have added to you nothing except disorder, and they would have hurried about in your midst (spreading corruption) and sowing sedition among you, and there are some among you who would have listened to them. And Allāh is the All-Knower of the Zālimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.). (Tawbah: 47)
This ayah was revealed to warn the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) about taking hypocrites with him to the front line
You may want to take a lot of people but we are not into quantity we are into quality
See how only 200 mujahideen took over Ramadi
Everyone is not frontline material
Some would add nothing but fitnah, busybody - sowing the seeds of fitnah
Not every mujahideen is wise and may fall for the fitnah
The mujahideen will talk to you and ask you incriminating questions and your local police will kick down your door and arrest you
Some of the mujahideen are simple-minded and will listen to the hypocrites and become affected by the hypocrites
So don't take them with you to the front line
So Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) revealed this Ayah to warn to Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) about the dangers of taking hypocrites to the front line
Some are working for the CIA, FBI, MI5 etc. Don't be naive
During the time of the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam), a man was on the front line with the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam)
He got many cuts and could not bear the pain and committed suicide
People who are naive get killed or ripped off by fake Muslims
SURAH TAWBAH VERSE 49
What did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) Say in surah Tawbah Verse 49 and why was it Revealed?
And among them is he who says:"Grant me leave (to be exempted from Jihād) and put me not into trial." Surely, they have fallen into trial. And verily, Hell is surrounding the disbelievers. (Tawbah: 49)
This was about Jadd Ibn Qays - a disciple of Abdullah Ibn Ubayy
When the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) announced that he was going to the Tabuk expedition
He said white women were a fitna for him – that was his excuse to stay back
Jadd said the women of Syria would be a fitna for him
When he said that, the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) turned away from him and said he could stay behind
The Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) turned away with disgust
This man was known to be a hypocrite of Madinah, a coward and stingy
If you are an Amir of an army and someone comes up with flimsy excuses like this
You will never take him along to the battle
SURAH TAWBAH VERSE 54
What did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) Say in surah Tawbah Verse 54 and why was it Revealed?
And nothing prevents their contributions from being accepted from them except that they disbelieved in Allāh and in His Messenger (Muhammad SAW); and that they came not to As-Salāt (the prayer) except in a lazy state; and that they offer not contributions but unwillingly. (Tawbah: 54)
This was revealed about the hypocrites of Madinah
They frowned when asked to give sadaqa
They came to salah lazy because salah was a burden on them
These hypocrites were cowards and misers and they practiced scare mongering
They would try to scare the mujahideen from going to jihad
To quell their scare mongering, Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) revealed 3:173
Those (i.e. believers) unto whom the people (hypocrites) said, "Verily, the people (pagans) have gathered against you (a great army), therefore, fear them." But it (only) increased them in Faith, and they said: "Allāh (Alone) is Sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs (for us)." (Imran: 173)
They used to break their promises and tell lies
SURAH TAWBAH VERSE 58
What did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) Say in surah Tawbah Verse 58 and why was it Revealed?
And of them are some who accuse you (O Muhammad SAW) in the matter of (the distribution of) the alms. If they are given part thereof, they are pleased, but if they are not given thereof, behold! They are enraged! (Tawbah: 58)
The Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) got some sadaqa and was distributing it
Dhul Khuwaysara told Muhammad (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) to be just.
He accused the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) of not distributing the sadaqa properly
As stated in the hadith below:
Narrated Abu Saeed al-Khudri: 'Ali bin Abi Talib sent a piece of gold not yet taken out of its ore, in a tanned leather container to Allah's Messenger. The Messenger of Allah distributed that amongst four Persons: 'Uyaina bin Badr, Aqra' bin Habis, Zaid al-Khail and the fourth was either Alqama or Amir bin at-Tufail. On that, one of his companions said, "We are more deserving of this (gold) than these (persons)." When that news reached the Prophet, he said, "Don't you trust me though I am a trustee of the One in the Heavens, and I receive the news of Heaven (i.e. Divine Inspiration) both in the morning and in the evening?" There got up a man with sunken eyes, raised cheek bones, raised forehead, a thick beard, a shaven head and a waist sheet that was tucked up and he said, "O Messenger of Allah, fear Allah!" The Prophet said, "Woe to you! Am I not of all the people of the earth the most entitled to fear Allah?" Then that man went away. Khalid bin al-Walid said, "O Messenger of Allah! Shall I chop his neck off?" The Prophet said, "No, for he may offer prayers." Khalid said, "Numerous are those who offer prayers and say by their tongues (i.e. mouths) what is not in their hearts." Allah's Messenger said, "I have not been ordered (by Allah) to search the hearts of the people or cut open their bellies." Then the Prophet looked at him (i.e. that man) while the latter was going away and said, "From the offspring of this (man there will come out (people) who will recite the Qur'an continuously and elegantly but it will not exceed their throats. (They will neither understand it nor act upon it). They would go out of the religion (i.e. Islam) as an arrow goes through a game's body." I think he also said, "If I should be present at their time I would kill them as the nations a Thamud were killed." [al-Bukhari (4351) and Muslim (1064)]
Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) revealed 9:58
People will never be satisfied with anything to do with dunya
It is impossible to please people regarding dunya matters

SURAH TAWBAH VERSES 65 & 66
What did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) Say in surah Tawbah Verses 65 & 66 and why were they Revealed?
If you ask them (about this), they declare: "We were only talking idly and joking." Say: "Was it at Allāh, and His Ayāt (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and His Messenger (SAW) that you were mocking?" (Tawbah: 65)
Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after you had believed. If We pardon some of you, We will punish others amongst you because they were Mujrimûn (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.). (Tawbah: 66)
Some hypocrites went with the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) to the Tabuk expedition
When they were going, they were talking among themselves
Saying is Muhammad (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) for real?
Does he really think we can beat the Romans?
Saying he was delusional
The hypocrites of Madinah used to say Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) and His Messenger (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) only promise fake promises in Ahzab Verse 12
And when the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is a disease (of doubts) said: "Allāh and His Messenger (SAW) promised us nothing but delusions!" (Ahzab: 12)
When they accused the prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) of being delusional, they said they were joking
So Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) revealed Tawbah Verse 65 & 66 to refute their lie
Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) made takfir on them
If you ask them (about this), they declare: "We were only talking idly and joking." Say: "Was it at Allāh, and His Ayāt (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and His Messenger (SAW) that you were mocking?" (Tawbah: 65)
Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after you had believed. If We pardon some of you, We will punish others amongst you because they were Mujrimûn (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.). (Tawbah: 66)
People tell you what they want to tell you in a joke because they don't have the balls to tell you how they really feel
Question 1: When I read Wahidi's book, I found that there were many reasons for the Revelation for an ayah, how do we know which one is the correct reason?
Answer 1: What Ibn Kathir (rahimahullah) alluded to is the best one to go with – It very useful and it is trustworthy. He had authority to give tafsir
Question 2: As-Salamu Alaykum, is it permissible for a Maulana to walk holding hands with his wife in public in darul harb?
Answer 2: There is no hadith to say that it is haram
Dar ul harb is not like Dar ul Islam
Perhaps he's trying to protect her
It is only makrooh in darul Islam not in darul harb
Because in darul harb she needs protection
Question 3: Close to my house there are two masjids and both masjids believe in democracy and elections. Is it haram for me to attend both masjids as there is no other masjid for me to attend? Should I approach them with the hujjah that democracy is shirk?
Answer 3: If you pray in this masjid they have no salah because they believe in democracy
But you have your salah because you don't believe in democracy
Don't bother traveling, they all believe in democracy
Don't worry about that
The best thing to do is to establish your own jamah
You only need three people to start it and it is valid
This is the opinion of Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) and it is correct

SURAH TAWBAH VERSE 74
What did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) say and why was it revealed?
They swear by Allah that they said nothing (bad), but really they said the word of disbelief, and they disbelieved after accepting Islam, and they resolved that (plot to murder Prophet Muhammad SAW) which they were unable to carry out, and they could not find any cause to do so except that Allah and His Messenger had enriched them of His Bounty. If then they repent, it will be better for them, but if they turn away, Allah will punish them with a painful torment in this worldly life and in the Hereafter. And there is none for them on earth as a Wali (supporter, protector) or a helper. (At-Tawbah 9:74)
Some hypocrites went with the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) on the Tabuk expedition and they formed groups
So the hypocrites used to travel and sit together during this expedition and speak ill of the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam), the sahabah (radiyallahu ‘anhum) and Islam
Hudhaifah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) overheard them and told the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) what they were saying
The Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) asked them about it and addressed them as hypocrites saying "O hypocrites, what is it I heard you said?"
The hypocrites denied saying it saying “wallahi we didn't say this and that”
When they swore by Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala), Allah revealed 9:74
….and they resolved that (plot to murder Prophet Muhammad SAW) which they were unable to carry out, (At-Tawbah 9:74)
What did they plot?
The plotted to murder the prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam)
When they were coming back from the journey, there was a narrow passageway
The horse has to walk carefully because there was a cliff beneath
If the horse were to slip off the cliff, both (horse and man) would die
The hypocrites plotted to frighten the Prophet's (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) horse
When he (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) reached the cliff
So when Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) said they plotted to murder Muhammad (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam), this is what Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) was talking about.
SURAH TAWBAH VERSES 79-77
What did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) say in 9:75-77 and why were they revealed?
And among them are those who made a covenant with Allah, [saying], "If He should give us from His bounty, we will surely spend in charity, and we will surely be among the righteous." (At-Tawbah 9:75)
But when he gave them from His bounty, they were stingy with it and turned away while they refused. (At-Tawbah 9:76)
So He penalized them with hypocrisy in their hearts until the Day they will meet Him - because they failed Allah in what they promised Him and because they [habitually] used to lie. (At-Tawbah 9:77)
According to Wahidi, a man in Madinah was poor and he approached the Prophet
(Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) and asked him to make dua for him
So that he would become rich.
The prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) didn't want to make the dua for this man
And told the man the little which is sufficient is better for you but the man continued to ask
So the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) prayed for him
And he got some sheep that multiplied
The man stopped coming to the masjid when the sheep multiplied like mushrooms
He used to come to the masjid all the time but he stopped for Zuhr and Asr
Then the sheep multiplied again and again
So he moved outside Madinah because the desert could accommodate his sheep
When the time for zakah came, the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) sent two men to collect the zakah from him
This man also abandoned salah-tul Jumuah
This is the same man who was poor
He told the two men zakah is the twin sister of jizya
He saw zakah as a punishment and said to the two men to come back later
They went to another man to collect zakah and the man gave them two of his best camels
They told him not give his best but he insisted upon them taking it
Saying the wealth came from Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala)
So they went back to the first man who thought zakah was a punishment and the man didn't give the zakah
The two men went back to the prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) and said they couldn't collect from this man, but collected from the other
The man went to the Prophet(Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) and offered to give Zakah and he didn't accept it
When the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) died, Abu Bakr (radiyallahu ‘anhu) didn't accept it, then Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhu) didn't accept it and so didn’t Uthman (radiyallahu ‘anhu)
They all said they won’t accept it from him because the prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) didn’t accept it from him
He died during the caliphate of Uthman
This ayah was revealed about this individual
Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) said when they refused to pay zakah, HE (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) punished them by putting hypocrisy in their hearts
If Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) loves you, you will have the right aqeeda
Narrated Muawiya: I heard the Prophet (SAW) saying, "If Allah wants to do good to a person, He makes him comprehend the religion. I am just a distributor, but the grant is from Allah. (And remember) that this nation (true Muslims) will keep on following Allah's teachings strictly and they will not be harmed by any one going on a different path till Allah's order (Day of Judgment) is established." [al-Bukhari (71) and Muslim (1037)]
SURAH TAWBAH VERSE 84
What did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) say in 9:84 and why was it revealed?
And never (O Muhammad SAW) pray (funeral prayer) for any of them (hypocrites) who dies, nor stand at his grave. Certainly they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger, and died while they were Fasiqun (rebellious, - disobedient to Allah and His Messenger SAW). (At-Tawbah 9:84)
This was revealed about Abdullah ibn Ubayy
He was the leader of the hypocrites of Madinah
He started the slander about Ayesha (radiyallahu ‘anha)
And pretended he didn't know who started it
When he died, the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) stood up to pray janazah over him
Ibn Umar (RA) narrated: Abdullah son of Abdullah ibn Ubayy came to Allah’s Messenger (SAW) when his father died, and said, ‘Give me your shirt that I may shroud him in it, and offer his funeral Salah and seek forgiveness for him.” So, he gave him his shirt and said, “When you are over (with preparations), call me.” When he intended to offer the Salah, Umar pulled him, saying, “Has not Allah forbidden us to pray over the hypocrites?” He said, “I am between two options either to seek forgiveness for them or not to seek forgiveness for them”, and he offered Salah over him. So Allah revealed. "And never offer a prayer on any one of them who dies, and do not stand by his grave." (At-Tawbah 9:84) [al-Bukhari (1269) and Muslim (2774)]
Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhu) pulled him (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) back and told him not to
But the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) still prayed over him
And Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) revealed ayah 9:84
The ayah came down to correct the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam)
Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhu) was right and the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) was wrong
If you go the janazah of a fallen kafir soldier, you are a munafiq as well
Only a munafiq goes to the janaza of a munafiq
9:84 is the evidence
Some of you have Christian parents or siblings
Can you go their janazah if they die as kuffaar?
According to shariah law, you are not allowed to go to the janazah of a kaafir
Because the purpose of going to a janaza is to pray for the deceased
That Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) accepts them
If your mom or dad dies a kafir, you are not allowed to pray for them
Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) revealed this because of the story above
You cannot beg Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) to forgive your kaafir relatives that died in a state of shirk
You are not allowed to go the janazah of a kaafir
It is not (proper) for the Prophet and those who believe to ask Allāh's Forgiveness for the Mushrikûn (polytheists, idolaters, pagans, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allāh) even though they be of kin, after it has become clear to them that they are the dwellers of the Fire (because they died in a state of disbelief). (At-Tawbah 9:113)
However, if the kaafir who dies is your parent, and you have no siblings to bury them
You are allowed to bury them because of the following hadith:
It was narrated that Abbu Ishaq said: "I heard Najiyah bin Ka'b narrating from 'Ali that he came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: 'Abu Talib has died.' He said: 'Go and bury him.' He said: 'He died as an idolator.' He said: 'Go and bury him.' ('Ali said: 'When I had buried him I went back to him and he said to me: 'Perform Ghusl.'" An Nasa'i : Vol. 1, Book 1,
The scholars use this hadith to say you can bury your parents if you have no siblings to bury them
Though the rasul (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) told Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu) to bury his father
He (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) didn’t attend the janazah
Some people asked if you can sit in the church
Uthaymeen says NO using 4:140 as his evidence
And it has already been revealed to you in the Book (this Qur'an) that when you hear the Verses of Allah being denied and mocked at, then sit not with them, until they engage in a talk other than that; (but if you stayed with them) certainly in that case you would be like them. Surely, Allah will collect the hypocrites and disbelievers all together in Hell, (An-Nisa 4:140)
According to Uthaymeen, the preacher is preaching rubbish
So you cannot sit in the Church to listen to it
You have to stay outside the church
SURAH TAWBAH VERSE 92
What did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) say in 9:92 and why was it revealed?
Nor (is there blame) on those who came to you to be provided with mounts, and when you said: "I can find no mounts for you," they turned back, while their eyes overflowing with tears of grief that they could not find anything to spend (for Jihad). (At-Tawbah 9:92)
Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) revealed this during the tabuk expedition
When the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) announced he was waging Jihad against the Romans
The mujahideen came from as far as Yemen (30,000 mujahideen)
The women of Madinah took off their rings, bangles etc and gave to Bilal (radiyallahu ‘anhu) to buy weapons for the Muslim Army
This ayah is talking about the 7 weepers (those who cried)
7 young men went to the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) wanting to go to war with him
But the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) said he didn't have an animal for them to ride
The 7 men cried because they missed the opportunity to go to the front line with the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam)
They cried because they were real Muslims
Unlike the Muslims of today
They cried so much that their tears soaked their shirts
This is why Allah revealed 9:92
SURAH TAWBAH VERSE 97
What did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) say in 9:97 and why was it revealed?
The bedouins are the worst in disbelief and hypocrisy, and more likely to be in ignorance of the limits (Allah's Commandments and His Legal Laws, etc.) which Allah has revealed to His Messenger. And Allah is All-Knower, All-Wise. (At-Tawbah 9:97)
This ayah was revealed about some Bedouins from the tribes of Banu Asad and Banu Ghatafan
They were living in the desert and the conditions of the desert was harsh
Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) is saying when you are in poverty
The poverty breeds hypocrisy and the harsh life that you are suffering can turn you into a hypocrite
When you are a hypocrite, you don't pay attention to learning your deen
Because it is not your interest
Hypocrites will not come to this room when in Paltalk
Quran and Sunnah is boring to a hypocrite
A hypocrite will go to rooms like the flirting zone
Anas Ibn Malik narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “Poverty, in all probability, leads to unbelief (kufr)...” [al-Bayhaqi narrated in 'Shu’ab al-Eemaan' (9/12) No. 6188 and Abu Na'eem narrated in 'Hileeyat al-Awwleeyah' (3/109)]
Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said, if poverty was a man, I would kill him with my two hands
SURAH TAWBAH VERSE 101
What did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) say in 9:101 and why was it revealed?
And among the bedouins round about you, some are hypocrites, and so are some among the people of Al-Madinah, they exaggerate and persist in hypocrisy, you (O Muhammad SAW) know them not, We know them. We shall punish them twice, and thereafter they shall be brought back to a great (horrible) torment. (At-Tawbah 9:101)
This was revealed about Abdullah ibn Ubayy, Jadd ibn Qays and Abu Amir al Rahib
Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) said they are seasoned in hypocrisy
They will die in this state (no change will come to them)
When Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) says "you don't know them" it means you don't know what is in their hearts
The Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) was told the names of the hypocrites by the angel Gabriel (‘alayhi salam)
The hypocrites used to pray because they were hiding behind salah
So the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) did not know they were hypocrites.
Therefore Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) sent the Angel Gabriel to expose them.
Umar said, "O Allah's Prophet! Shall we not kill this evil person (i.e. `Abdullah bin Ubai bin Salul)?" The Prophet) said, "(No), lest the people should say that Muhammad used to kill his companions."' [al-Bukhari (4/183) and Muslim (2584)]
SURAH TAWBAH VERSE 102-103
Why did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) reveal 9:102-103 and what did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) say?
And (there are) others who have acknowledged their sins, they have mixed a deed that was righteous with another that was evil. Perhaps Allah will turn unto them in forgiveness. Surely, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (At-Tawbah 9:102)
Take Sadaqah (alms) from their wealth in order to purify them and sanctify them with it, and invoke Allah for them. Verily! Your invocations are a source of security for them, and Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower. (At-Tawbah 9:103)
These two ayahs are talking about the 10 men who stayed behind
They didn't march with the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) to the Tabuk expedition
They felt ashamed of what they did, so they tied themselves in the masjid
Saying they will never untie themselves until Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) forgave them
And until the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) untied them
Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) forgave them out of His Mercy and the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) untied them
When the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) untied them, they handed over their wealth to the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) saying it was a fitna for them
The Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) refused the wealth
So Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) revealed the above verses
Take Sadaqah (alms) from their wealth in order to purify them and sanctify them with it, and invoke Allah for them. Verily! Your invocations are a source of security for them, and Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower. (At-Tawbah 9:103)
By the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) taking their wealth, it would purify them as the above ayah states
Sadaqa cools the anger of Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala)
Anas bin Malik narrated that the Messenger of Allah (SAWS) said: "Indeed charity extinguishes the Lord's anger and it protects against the evil death." [Sunan Tirmidhi (3/43) No. 664] (Daeef)
Why do you have to give sadaqa if you go to bed with your wife on her menses?
Why do you have to feed 60 poor if you go to bed with your wife in Ramadan before maghrib?
Because sadaqa cools the anger of Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala).
I can use a daeef hadith to encourage you to do righteous acts
Like stopping you from divorcing your wife
Abdullah bin Umar narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "The most hated of permissible things to Allah is divorce." [Sunan Abu Dawud (Vol. 1, pg. 661) No. 2176 and Sunan Ibn Majah (Vol. 3, pg. 180) No. 2018] (Daeef)
SURAH TAWBAH VERSE 106
What did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) say in 9:106 and why was it revealed?
And others await Allah's Decree, whether He will punish them or will forgive them. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise. (At-Tawbah 9:106)
"Others" here means three people
These three people are called the three who regret missing the caravan of Tabuk
The three are Ka'b ibn Malik, Murarah ibn Rabi and Hilal ibn Umayyah
From all the people who regret missing the caravan, these three stood out more than anyone else
SURAH TAWBAH VERSE 107-108
What did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) say in 9:107-108 and why were they revealed?
And as for those who put up a mosque by way of harming and disbelief, and to disunite the believers, and as an outpost for those who warred against Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad SAW) aforetime, they will indeed swear that their intention is nothing but good. Allah bears witness that they are certainly liars. (At-Tawbah 9:107)
Never stand you therein. Verily, the mosque whose foundation was laid from the first day on piety is more worthy that you stand therein (to pray). In it are men who love to clean and to purify themselves. And Allah loves those who make themselves clean and pure (i.e. who clean their private parts with dust [i.e. to be considered as soap) and water from urine and stools, after answering the call of nature]. (At-Tawbah 9:108)
The sincere believers built a masjid called Masjid Quba
The hypocrites got jealous because the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) came and prayed in that masjid when the believers invited him (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam)
Quba is about 5 miles in the outskirts of Madinah
The hypocrites built another masjid to rival masjid Quba
And invited the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) to pray in their masjid
The Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) said he was going to Tabuk,
But will pray there when he returned
Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) revealed that the masjid was built on kufr
That masjid is called Masjid Diraar meaning a masjid that preaches kufr
The Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) sent Wahshi and two other men to burn it down When he learnt it was built by hypocrites to rival Islam and preach kufr
“When the Messenger of Allah came back from Tabuk and was approximately one or two days away from Al-Madinah, Jibril came down to him with the news about Masjid Ad-Dirar and the disbelief and division between the believers, who were in Masjid Quba' (which was built on piety from the first day), that Masjid Ad-Dirar was meant to achieve. Therefore, the Messenger of Allah sent some people to Masjid Ad-Dirar to bring it down before he reached Al-Madinah. `Ali bin Abi Talhah reported that Ibn `Abbas said about this Ayah (9:107), "They are some people of the Ansar to whom Abu `Amir said, `Build a Masjid and prepare whatever you can of power and weapons, for I am headed towards Caesar, emperor of Rome, to bring Roman soldiers with whom I will expel Muhammad and his companions.' When they built their Masjid, they went to the Prophet and said to him, "We finished building our Masjid and we would like you pray in it and invoke Allah for us for His blessings" [Tafsir ibn Kathir on 9:107 Pg. 515]
In our society today, if a masjid in the community invites politicians to canvas the Muslim for votes in the masjid that is Masjid Diraar
When the FBI goes to the masjid asking for names of radical Muslims, and they give names - that masjid is Masjid Diraar
99% of the masjids in the West are masjid Diraar
Any masjid funded by the kuffaar and preaches you can join the Western army and fight the mujahideen is Masjid Diraar
Diraar means to destroy
When a masjid has a grave inside of it, it is masjid diraar
A masjid that preaches kufr, shirk and zandaqa and call it Islam is Masjid Diraar
Any masjid that bad mouth the mujahideen is masjid diraar
Any masjid that says there is no jihad anywhere in the world today is masjid diraar
SURAH TAHWBAH VERSE 111
Why did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) reveal 9:111 and what did He say?
Verily, Allah has purchased of the believers their lives and their properties; for the price that theirs shall be the Paradise. They fight in Allah's Cause, so they kill (others) and are killed. It is a promise in truth which is binding on Him in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel) and the Qur'an. And who is truer to his covenant than Allah? Then rejoice in the bargain which you have concluded. That is the supreme success. (At-Tawbah 9:111)
Jihad was done by the Ummah of Musa, Isa (‘alayhima salatu wa salam) and Muhammad
(Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam).
Some sahabah approached the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) and said to him to stipulate what he wishes regarding Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) and himself (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam)
The Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) said “as for Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) I stipulate that you worship Him alone without associating partners unto Him, as for me, I stipulate that you defend me against the same things that you defend yourselves”
The sahabah (radiyallahu ‘anhum) said “And what do we get in return if we do this?”
The Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) said “the Paradise”
The sahabah said "this is the supreme transaction and we would never falter on this bargain”
When the sahabah said that, Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) revealed 9:111
SURAH TAWBAH VERSE 113-114
Why did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) reveal 9:113-114 and what did He say?
It is not (proper) for the Prophet and those who believe to ask Allah's Forgiveness for the Mushrikun (polytheists, idolaters, pagans, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah) even though they be of kin, after it has become clear to them that they are the dwellers of the Fire (because they died in a state of disbelief). (At-Tawbah 9:113)
And [Ibrahim's (Abraham)] invoking (of Allah) for his father's forgiveness was only because of a promise he [Ibrahim (Abraham)] had made to him (his father). But when it became clear to him [Ibrahim (Abraham)] that he (his father) is an enemy to Allah, he dissociated himself from him. Verily Ibrahim (Abraham) was Al-Awwah (has fifteen different meanings but the correct one seems to be that he used to invoke Allah with humility, glorify Him and remember Him much), and was forbearing. (Tafsir Al-Qurtubi). (At-Tawbah 9:114)
This ayah was revealed to correct the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) when he said he was going to seek forgiveness for his kaafir uncle, Abu Talib
It is haram to beg Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) to forgive your kafir relative
SURAH TAWBAH VERSE 122
What did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) say in 9:122 and why was it revealed?
And it is not (proper) for the believers to go out to fight (Jihad) all together. Of every troop of them, a party only should go forth, that they (who are left behind) may get instructions in (Islamic) religion, and that they may warn their people when they return to them, so that they may beware (of evil). (At-Tawbah 9:122)
Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) revealed this because the sahabah used to go for Jihad (all of them) and would leave the Prophet (Salallahu 'Alayhi wa sallam) alone in Madinah with no protection
They all went because they feared hypocrisy
Because one of the signs of hypocrisy is that he shuns Jihad and slanders the mujahideen
Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) revealed 9:122 because of this
They feared hypocrisy because of the hadith:
It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: One who died but did not fight in the way of Allah nor did he express any desire (or determination) for Jihad died the death of a hypocrite. [Sahih Muslim, Book 20, Hadith 4696]
SURAH TAWBAH VERSE 124-125
Why did Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) reveal 9:124-125 and what did He say?
And whenever there comes down a Surah (chapter from the Qur'an), some of them (hypocrites) say: "Which of you has had his Faith increased by it?" As for those who believe, it has increased their Faith, and they rejoice. (At-Tawbah 9:124)
But as for those in whose hearts is a disease (of doubt, disbelief and hypocrisy), it will add suspicion and doubt to their suspicion, disbelief and doubt, and they die while they are disbelievers. (At-Tawbah 9:125)
Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) revealed these two Ayah because
The hypocrites of Madinah used to make a mockery of the Quran
So whenever Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) revealed an Ayah, they would ask each other
Which one of you had his iman increased by this surah and they asked it sarcastically
So Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) revealed 9:124-125
New surahs cause the sincere believers’ iman to increased
But the hypocrites would grow in hypocrisy
Because they would keep rejecting each new surah and mocking it
Question 1: Is it still wajib for muslims to go to the masjid for salah, even though they can't hear the athan because there are no minarets in darul harb?
Answer 1: Bin Baaz fatwa:
Shaykh Ibn Baaz said: The one who can hear the call to prayer given in a regular voice without amplification is obliged to respond and to come and pray in congregation in the mosque in which the call is given… But for those who live far away from the mosque and cannot hear the call to prayer except with amplification do not have to come to the mosque. They and those who are with them may pray in a separate congregation. If they take the trouble to attend the prayer with the congregation in the mosque whose call to prayer they cannot hear except with amplification because they are too far away, that will bring them a greater reward. [Majmoo’ Fataawa al-Shaykh Ibn Baaz (may Allaah have mercy on him), 12/58.]
It is only fard if you can hear the adhan with the human voice
Question 2: Asalam Alekum Shaikh Since you spoke about hypocrites. I saw a video with a Dowla Mujahid having an exchange with an FSA murtad by walky talky. In it the Murtad asked the Mujahid "Why are you here and not go to Israel?" The Mujahid responded by saying "fighting the apostates like you takes precedence over fighting Jews and Christians." What is the evidence for what the Mujahid said in the Quran and sunnah?
Answer 2: These people are munafiqs
The Ayah that says you should fight the hypocrites is 9:73
O Prophet, fight against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and be harsh upon them. And their refuge is Hell, and wretched is the destination. (At-Tawbah 9:73) Sahih international
You should fight the apostates first (Shia, etc)
Although some say the Shia have nothing to apostate from because they are mushrikeen
Ikrimah (RA) reported that Ali sentenced those who had apostatised from Islam to be burnt down. When Ibn Abbas (RA) learnt of it, he said, “If I was there then I would have had them killed because Allah’s Messenger (SAW) had said, “He who changes his religion should be killed, I would not burn him because Allah’s Messenger (SAW) had said, ‘ Do not punish with Allah’s punishment.” When Ali learnt of it, he said, “Ibn Abbas (RA), has spoken the truth.” [Tirmidhi 1463, Bukhari 3017]
If people asked you where in the Quran it is stated that you can kill apostates, the evidence is 4:89
But if they turn back (from Islam), take (hold) of them and kill them wherever you find them, and take neither Auliya' (protectors or friends) nor helpers from them. (An-Nisa 4:89)
You have to do a purge of the apostates, before you fight the kuffaar
This hudud (of killing the apostate) can only be carried out on darul Islam
Question 3: assalamu 3alaykum wa ra7matullahi wa barakatuh, is it allowed to kill those who call themselves Muslims but support the kuffaar because they don’t know about their deen?
Answer 3: Whenever you are fighting an apostate army, you have to fight them as apostates
They have apostatised by supporting the kuffaar
The evidence is surah 5:51 and the fatwa of ibn Hazm and Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahaab
O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians as Auliya' (friends, protectors, helpers, etc.), they are but Auliya' to one another. And if any amongst you takes them as Auliya', then surely he is one of them. Verily, Allah guides not those people who are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrongdoers and unjust). (Al-Ma'idah 5:51)
Sheikh Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahab, may Allah have mercy on him, gathered ten actions that negate one's Islam (Nawaqid ul-'Ashr), the eighth one of which states: "Assisting the disbelievers (against the believers) (Mudhaharatul Mushrikeen) and supporting them against the believers (is from the actions that negates of one's faith). The Proof being the statement of Allah, "And if any amongst you takes them as Auliya', then surely he is one of them. Verily, Allah guides not those people who are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers and unjust). (The Quran 5:51).”
Ibn Hazm Stated in Al-Muhalla (11/138): "What is correct is that His statement, the Most High, "And if any amongst you takes them as Auliya', then surely he is one of them." (The Quran 5:51), should be understood on the basis of its apparent meaning. The person being referred to is a disbeliever from the generality of disbelievers, and no two Muslims disagree regarding this.
